150 Year Celebration
Rev. Frank Keifer organized Huffman Settlement Church on the fifth Sunday in April 1871. The church met in the community schoolhouse located in the Post Oak Grove near the original cemetery. Later, they met in a schoolhouse on the present site of the church. In 1991, the church changed its name to Huffman Baptist Church. The first sanctuary was built in 1923 under the leadership of Rev. D.P. McGowan. The first education building was constructed at Huffman Baptist Church in 1955-56 under the leadership of Rev. J. F. Maguire.
In 1960, the church voted to change its name to First Baptist Church of Huffman. In 1963, the second sanctuary was built under the leadership of Rev. Norman Diehl. Upon completion, the old sanctuary was sold and removed. The current office was constructed as a parsonage while Rev. Jim Stevens was pastor. Rev. Shelton Lawson was pastor when a third education space was constructed in 1971. In July 1975, the current sanctuary was built. Under the leadership of Rev. Bruce Swihart, the children’s building was constructed in 1985. Dr. David Miller oversaw the purchase of the retention pond and the construction of the concrete parking lot in 1997.
In 2007, Pastor Mike Martin was called to lead this great church. As has been the heritage of First Baptist Church, many things have grown and changed. In 2010, the church bought and remodeled what is now called the South Education Building and the Youth Center. At that time, the Huffman Food Pantry was started in the far south end of the church property. In 2024, the Family Life Center was completed.
To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
